Here are two Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi by Kuribayashi Issetsu. They are both graceful ladies with similar characteristics, but the smaller one is only 8" tall and the larger one is 13" tall. The bottoms have stamped marks, and although one is only partial, I don't think there is any doubt that they are by Kuribayashi Issetsu. I particularly like the way he shapes the heads of his ladies and has the hair softly frame their faces from a center part. I think that the patterns on the clothing are open chrysanthemums on the large doll and camellia flowers on the small one. I haven't seen this camellia pattern before, and I think it has a lovely "watercolor" look.
