I was pleasantly surprised when I received this vintage Komori (babysitter) Kokeshi. It was sold as an unknown piece purchased in Japan in the 1970s and judging by the "modern" style, finish, toning and wear, I agree that it dates to that time or a little earlier. The surprise was finding that it was signed by Aoki Ryoka (Ryouka). I like her Kokeshi very much and I'm pleased to have an older piece by her. The photo unfortunately doesn't capture the sweetness of the pose and expressions, and the really pleasing proportions of the figure.
