. . These are the four dolls who first caused me to become interested in Kokeshi. I was given them as a group and the charm, detail and unique characteristics of each of them strongly appealed to me. I think the first is a variation of a Maiko Geisha, the second is a lovely woman with a flowered kimono, the third is a farm woman with a fairly typical river gorge painted scene, and the fourth is an Awa dancer. They measure 8 1/2" to 9 1/2" tall and all have calligraphy markings. The continuing pleasure comes from learning more about what the dolls represent, when they were made, and who they were made by. |
