Chinese hair crystal snuff dishes are very rare. While snuff bottles are common and have been collected widely, information on snuff dishes, or snuff plates, or snuff saucers, is difficult to find. In the past, snuff users had snuff bottles for storage and snuff dishes to crush the clumps of snuff which occasionally formed.

This is a wonderful oval snuff dish made of hair crystal with fine "blond" hairs or needles curled thickly along one edge and distributed finely through the rest of the stone. The dish is slightly concave, with a shallow foot rim on the bottom, and measures 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/16 inches by about 3/16 inches high at the rim. The surface has a few fine scratches and the edge has some minute nicks, which may be original or from use, but do not detract from the beauty of the piece ...... $275.00
