This is an original, pencil signed woodblock print by Umetaro Azechi, a famous Japanese woodblock print artist who lived from 1902 to 1999. The title is "Rescued Bird", and is a very appealing portrait of a mountaineer standing with his wooden staff in front of him, holding a bird. This is an unusually large print with the image measuring 17" x 24" and the paper measuring 19" x 26 3/4". The print is pencil signed: U. Azechi on the bottom left, calligraphy on the bottom right, is marked AP (artist's proof) and -57 (1957). The print has the red Azechi seal in the image and there is a number 22 printed in the margin on the back. This woodblock was framed in the 1960's and the back of the print was taped to the mat on all four sides. The print was released from the mat in order to assess condition. There is some toning of the edges on the front of the print. The image is beautiful, bright, and clean and available with or without the mat and/or frame. Additional photographs are available on request. ...... $1250.00 |
