. This book is Volume II (the surgical part) of Part I of the "The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion" (The Civil War, 1861-1865). The title page states "Washington - Government Printing Office - 1870". The series of books of which this is a part was "Prepared, in Accordance with Acts of Congress, Under the Direction of Surgeon General Joseph K. Barnes, United States Army". This is an amazing reference book with discussions concerning the treatment of head, neck and chest wounds - among others - caused by saber, bayonet, gunshot and other traumatic causes as well as many associated medical conditions and various infections. The book consists of 650 numbered pages of text, drawings and lithographs as well as many other Roman numeraled pages: introduction, "Chronological Summary of Engagements and Battles", indices, omissa, and other pertinent information. The book has essentially clean text and illustrations. The endpapers show black soiling and fingerprints, which are also found on a couple of pages. The pages have toning, some have areas of moisture staining along the top edge, one page is loose, one page has a tear, and there are multiple minor edge faults. The cover is stained and has frayed corners and spine ends. The endpapers are holding the cover on. ...... $100.00 |
