. This is a very nice, large porcelain clam shell box or container that I believe is Seto in origin. The inside of the top has the design of sailing boats and the bottom has the design of the Ise Jingu Shrine, the "Husband - Wife Rock". The outside is nicely glazed and the bottom is flat, without a foot rim. Closed, the piece measures 7" wide, 5 1/2" deep and about 2 3/4" high. The piece probably dates to the 1800s and is in quite good conditions with no cracks or repairs. There are about 4 or 5 small flakes along the edges and one very small chip, but for a Meiji period piece, the condition is very nice ...... SOLD |
