This is a wonderful image of Japan's most famous volcano, Mount Fuji, against the golden sunrise-lit sky of the early morning. The artist, S. Niimi, like so many others in Japan at the time, had a great fondness of painting Mt. Fuji and did so from many different angles. The painting is signed in English and also has an accompaning personal seal. The watercolor is on heavier paper and the image measures 19 5/8" wide by 13 1/8" high, with an overall size is 20 1/8" by 13 1/2". The overall condition is very good with no folds, tears or foxing but there is some fading as evidenced by the darker 'rim' of color around the edges, an area which was protected from light by a previous matting. Still and all, this is a very impressive and detailed image of one of the most famous and recognized landmarks in Japan, as rendered by a very skilled and talented artist ...... $150.00
