This is a very nice and peaceful watercolor by S. Niimi. The scene is a village - it looks like early evening on an autumn day - near a river with a villager, carrying a bundle of sticks, walking along the road and having just passed a large stone lantern and Torii. This is a very well executed and pleasing piece. The watercolour measures 20 1/8" by 13 5/16" with about a 3/8" margin all of the way around. The piece is in quite nice condition. There is some paper (mulberry paper?) adhered to areas of the front margin and one pencil mark that you may be able to see in the top left corner. There is only very minimal toning or fading of the front, the work is done on a heavy paper and is not backed. The back has some penciling, both in English and Japanese, a very small black rubber-stamped 'Made in Japan' and part of an old sticker. The tape adhering to the top edge is acid-free.
