Terauchi Watercolor - Leaving Shore in a Rough Sea

This is a rather large, dynamic Japanese western-style watercolor of 3 people in a boat leaving shore through a rough surf. Though it was probably fairly routine, what a way to start a long day/night fishing. The watercolour is signed "Terauchi" at the bottom right corner. This piece measures 24 7/8" by 17 3/4" and, though it's condition could be better, it would command attention in any room when properly framed. When we acquired this piece it was framed and up to 1 1/8" of the image had been folded under along the right edge to accomodate it's framing. The bottom left corner has a triangular fold and, near that, there is a light 2" scratch. I think that the piece had once been stored rolled as it has about 8 light ripples along it's width. The back is moderately, but evenly, toned. We have never seen a watercolor by Terauchi that shows such an intense seashore scene ...... SOLD
