. This is a wonderful, early print of leafless trees in the early morning mists by Miyamoto Shufu. The artist, born in 1950, has lived in Kyoto Japan since the early 1980's and has devoted his energies to the traditional Japanese form of woodblock printing. This print is one of his earlier works, of which there seem to be very few available. The subtle greys lend a quiet beauty to this scene of an early morning, misty field with a lone, small stand of trees bathing in the cloud-diffused moonlight. The print is pencil signed S. Miyamoto, dated '87, titled in calligraphy and numbered 178/198 (later works are in editions of 200). There is a red seal in the image and a watermark in the paper that is 4 characters of calligraphy. The paper size is 18 3/4" x 13 3/4" and the image size is 15 3/4" x 10 3/4". The print is in very nice condition with no toning, fading, foxing or tears. Two corners have very light creases, well outside the image area and there are 2 pieces of archival tape at the top on the verso from a prior framing. Some variations in shading is from the photographer (me) not the print ...... $650.00 . |
