This is a very large Japanese Kutani Porcelain bowl - perhaps a Punch Bowl - that quite probably dates from the end of the 1800's. The overall pattern is that of flowers and birds in the traditional Kutani colors and highlighted with gilt. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with birds, flowers, grasses and limbs on the upper half and a very good diaper highlighted with gilt on the lower half. This bowl measures 13 1/2" in diameter at the rim and 4 9/16" high. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips cracks or repairs. There are a couple of glaze misses and, of course, wear to the gilt but the Kutani colors on this porcelain bowl are quite vibrant ...... $175.00
