This is a wonderful Japanese mizusashi - a water jar for Tea Ceremony - made of faience (earthenware) and would probably be correctly labeled kyo-yaki. The piece is 6 1/4" high and approximately 5 1/2" at the widest point. The design of a flower cart and foliage is excellently executed with black, red, green, blue, white and gilt overglaze enamels. There is an impressed 2 character mark that says 'Ninsei' (part of the mark is under the glaze). We are hesitant to attribute a date to this piece but, as can be seen in the photos, it is not new. The piece has the discoloration in areas that comes with age and use for this type of material - faience (the type of material used for Satsuma wares). This piece is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or restorations ...... $400.00
